Colonel Ward Pumping StationFrey Electric installed two 2.2 megawatt emergency backup generators at the Colonel Ward Pumping Station in Buffalo, NY. The two generators will provide power for the high-service water pumps that supply potable water and fire protection supply water throughout the city. A 350-ton crane was used to lift both generators into a tight footprint between the station and the garage. New switchgear and transfer switches were also installed. Previously, the pumping station did not have emergency backup power to support its operations. The City of Buffalo Water Authority is looking into cost saving measures such as an energy curtailment program where the pumping station is intermittently powered by the generators and taken off the power grid.
